Red Leaf Japanese Maple Detail

Red Leaf Japanese Maple is a favorite of our customers because of its deep red summer color and brilliant shades of red in the fall. The compact size, ornamental form and shade tolerance have made this one of the most popular specimen plants in milder climates.

We have grown an exceptional crop at our Olympia, Washington nursery this season, with plants in a wide range of sizes. It would be a good time to stock up on this popular plant, because Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ can be tricky to grow. First, sufficient seed is often not available to meet our planting plan. Seed quality can be poor due to inadequate pollination or excessive drying after harvest. Even high quality seed does not necessarily assure success. Newly emerged seedlings are especially sensitive to low temperature in spite of our measures to “frost protect” the crop.

Red Leaf Japanese Maple in the Greenhouse

At Lawyer Nursery, overcoming these sorts of difficulties is just the type of challenge that we gladly embrace. We have seedlings, plugs and transplants available. The plugs are greenhouse grown in 6″ tall band pots and are graded by height. If you are looking for larger stock, consider our four year old bareroot transplants. All of these plants are truly exceptional and present our customers with a great buying opportunity.
